Everyone knows that Vans are the world’s
1 skateboarding shoes. In 1966, Vans Started As The Van Doren Rubber Company: The shoe brand we know and love as Vans actually started as the Van Doren Rubber Company, in Anaheim California. Van Doren Rubber specialized in making canvas deck shoes with grippy rubber soles. The name Vans was coined when people would say “Let’s head over to Van’s and grab shoes”, Vans took the nickname and ran with it. They produced only 3 pairs and put them in the window. People could come in, order the model and color, and come later to pick up their shoes. Meanwhile the owners rushed tot he factory to produce the shoes. Vans is today known not only as a symbol of alternative sports like skateboarding and snowboarding buti t is becoming recognized and accepted by the fashion industry as the coolest statement sneakers ont he streets, no longer just a shoe for skateboarders.
The shoes weight and dimensions are based on sizes 37 women and 42 men. The measured data may vary by size!

On March 16, 1966 in Anaheim,California, brothers Paul Van Doren,James Van Doren, and three other partners opened up the first Vans store. On that first morning, twelve customers purchased Vans deck shoes, which are now known as "Authentic".
The company continued to grow into the 1970s. During this period they also produced wool lined canvas and rubber under contract to the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Air Force. In 1975, today known the "Era", was born.
With a padded collar and different color combinations, the Era became the shoe of choice for a generation of skateboarders due to the non-slip bottom being more conducive for a better grip.
By the end of the 1970s, Vans had seventy stores in California, US, and sold through dealers, both nationally and internationally. In the mid 90’s Vans built several indoor-outdoor parks for BMX riders, and for skaterboarders. The company sponsors many sport events and music festivals too.
